Portraits?

Fri Jan 23, 2009, 2:07 PM
I don't know. As I keep exploring my inner self using my art and creating increasingly fucked-up shit, I find portraying people to become increasingly less attractive. I know there's a world of difference between my first few portraits and the one I've done of Devin Townsend, and I know that if I keep practicing it, I can become good at it. The only problem is, the more I think about another portrait, the more disdain I feel about it.

Some say that appetite comes with food, but it's like offering soup to someone who really longs for a steak.

What do you guys say? Should I try it anyway? Or should I follow my heart and keep doing the more twisted, Jordanian kind of stuff?

Other than that, there have been a few changes in my life which I will soon reveal to you all. All happy stuff (: Until then -

Have a great week everyone!

Personally, I hate portraits..I heva a few in my gallery cuz I was practicing my brush and ink and water skills. But I found them boring. I always say: take a photo goddamn. But then again, they're good practice for drawing of face anatomy..ya know... your call mate

I hate my flesh. It's dimension poisoned my soul with doubt. It made me question the essence of... the 'I'

Mostly I like portraits if they're more than just a straight up depiction - ala your self-portrait, for instance. That was a fantastic piece of art.

I don't think it's something you should force, if you feel like drawing portraits do so, but if you want to focus on your more intricate work I think that's what you should do.

That's the way I see it, anyway - for me, my art is for me first and foremost, and I don't tend to do anything for anyone else unless I feel it's something I'd enjoy doing, or something I feel I could do something interesting with. Maybe that's selfish, but it's a very personal thing.
